Trivia Night is a big success
Thank you to everyone who helped out at our trivia night event on February 9. We decided to hold the event at the school, and I think it was a great decision. Thanks to our efforts and the excellent participation of teachers and alumni, we raised over $4200 for the Linda T. Russ Memorial Fund and for our upcoming trip to Nationals.
There are many people to thank: all of the parents who acquired or donated auction items, came for setup, helped staff the event, and clean up afterwards; the chess players who worked as runners, judges, and ticket sellers; Rich Moore for help setting up and moving chairs; Bob for use of the gym; Heather, David, and Sara for help with the business angle of an event such as this; my wife for her expert organizational help; and all the teachers, administrators, staff, and Crossroads College Prep families who attended the event.
Special match with Mark Twain Elementary
We will be traveling to Mark Twain Elementary School during activity period on Thursday, February 21 for a special match there. Students who are in chess activity will attend. We will return to school around 4:30 pm. The event is free, and pizza and refreshments will be provided by the Mark Twain chess club.

Nationals
Nationals will be held in Atlanta this year from April 17-21. To compete on the Crossroads College Prep team, players must participate in two tournaments (preferably rated for new players) and the Missouri State Championships. We will be staying at the tournament site, the Hyatt Hotel and Convention Center, in downtown Atlanta. I am estimating the cost of the trip this year to be $300, including registration fees, food and lodging. Please contact Howard if you have any questions.
